HURRICANE TIPS

Plan a safety escape.  When you arrive at your rental beach cottage or hotel, find out where the nearest safety exits are.  Also, find out where fire extinguishers are.

If a fire alarm rings.  Leave the rental beach cottage or hotel by the nearest stairs or fire exit, but before opening the door feel for heat and check for smoke.  If there is heat or smoke, look for another exit.

Leave the rental beach cottage or hotel immediately when hearing the fire alarm.  Do not go back for belongings.

Remain calm and comfort children to reassure them.

Keep all candles, matches and lighters away from children and out of sight.  Never allow them to play with matches or lighters.  Teach them about the dangers of matches and lighters.

Never leave lighters in the care on a hot day, near a heater, fireplace or stove, where they can explode.

Teach children how to Stop, Drop and Roll when their clothes caught on fire.

Always supervise children around any heat source.

Children should NEVER play with extinguishers.
